PES Scholar - 2015

Major: Electrical Engineering Graduation Year: December 2016 School: University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Emphasis: Power and Energy Other Interests: Water Polo, Biking

Why did you choose to study engineering and the power engineering field?

I have always had a passion for math and science. A digital electronics class in high school introduced me to electrical engineering allowing me to mix my math and science skills with some fun projects. It was the work I did in my internship with Syska Hennessey Group that pulled me into the power engineering field.

What do you love about the power engineering field? What excites you about being involved in the PE field?

There is a lot to get tingly about the power engineering field. It's been around for over a century now and hasn't changed much. Ac is still ac and dc is still dc. Finding ways to create and use this power in a greener, more efficient manner is what makes today's challenges in the field exciting to be a part of.

How has been selected as a PES Scholar impacted you?

Being selected as a PES Scholar has pushed me to keep an open, eager mind in the power and energy field. Knowing that professionals in the field are willing to give their time and resources to benefit my development is comforting.
