13Who am I?

PES Scholar - 2015

Electrical Engineering, May 2017, University of Kentucky Emphasis on Power Systems

Why did you choose to study engineering and the power engineering field?

When I came into college, I knew I wanted to study engineering because I was good at math and science, but I did not know in which discipline I wanted to be. After hearing a professor from the EE department talk about power and energy, mainly about the many challenges and opportunities coming in the future, I knew this was where I belonged.

What do you love about the power engineering field? What excites you about being involved in the PE field?

The thing I love most about working in the power industry is that no day is the same. Working at a coal fired power plant, different tasks came up every day, which led to incredible learning opportunities. Another thing I love about the power industry is the vast opportunity from improving how we create energy.

How has been selected as a PES Scholar impacted you?

Since I was only selected a short time ago, the only impact I've had has been financial. But with only one semester of college left until graduation, that financial impact is incredibly helpful. I look forward to exploring the other benefits that PES can provide.
