Luke Haberkorn - Marquette University
I am currently a Junior at Marquette University studying Electrical Engineering with an influence in Power Electronics. I will be graduating in the Spring of 2018.
Ever since I was a young kid I have been influenced by electrical engineering. My father, uncle, and four older brothers are all electrical engineers. Engineering is not just an ordinary major to me; it is a major that opens the door to numerous different career paths, something that really caught my attention. My interest in power engineering began to grow shortly after having worked at power engineering companies and experienced the power engineering field. I hope one day to continue my passion and be able to contribute my knowledge with the field in a productive way.
One thing that I love about the power engineering field is the vast opportunities that come along with it. With this being said, all of the opportunities spark my interest. For example, whether I end up designing a substation, consulting, or working on a more efficient power grid design - I know I will be satisfied and left feeling fulfilled with the work that I do.
How has been selected as a PES Scholar impacted you?
After receiving the PES scholarship, I instantly fell in love with the power engineering industry. I always had an interest in it growing up and having received the scholarship, along with the vast resources that are included, I am now able to expand my knowledge in the field far outside the classroom. I hope to one day be able to use the knowledge and networking that I have gained through the scholarship to better myself and my community.
