Julia Conger, University of Texas at Austin (Region 5)
Julia is expected to get her Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering in May 2018. She has had internships with Electric Power Engineers and at ERCOT. These industry experiences have inspired her to participate in the University of Texas integrated master’s program with a concentration in power engineering.
Firehiwot Gurara, Cornell University (Region 1)
Firehiwot is expected to get her Bachelors Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in December 2018. She has internships with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Cobb Systems Group and the Rutgers University Research in Science and Engineering Program. Her ultimate goal is to have career that allows her to work on improving the lives of people livng in rural communities but ensuring that they have access to a dependable power.
Jakub Kowalczyk, Illinois Institute of Technology (Region 4)
Jakub is expected to graduate in May 2018 with a Bachelors and Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was selected as an academice intern for ComEd in the summer of 2017 due to his academic achievement and interst in Power & Energy.
Rachel Lucas, University of Nevada Reno (Region 6)
Rachel is expected to graduate in May 2018 with an BS in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in renewable energy. She has had internship at Nevada Energy and with General Electric Renewable Energy.
Abigail Shelton, University of Kentucky (Region 3)
Abigail is expected to graduate in May 2018. With a degree in EE, she would like to plan to improve renewable energy sources and pioneer new and innovative ways to design sustainable commercial and residential buildings. She has worked as an Electrical Engineering Intern at CMTA Consulting Engineers, focusing on renovation and new construction of medical and educational facilities. She is a member of IEEE Eta Kappa Nu.
Corey Weimann, University of Pittsburgh (Region 2)
Corey is expected to graduate in May 2018 with a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering with a Power Engineering concentration. He has had internships with Cintar, Inc.. He is a member of IEEE Eta Kappa Nu.
Yilin "Linda" Zhao, University of Calgary (Region 7)
Linda is expected to graduate in June 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in energy and environment. She worked as a protection engineering intern at Hydro One Networks and she is active in the IEEE Student Branch executive committee at her university. Linda decided to study electrical engineering when she made a wind-powered generator using recycled materials for a science competition in high school. The potentials of renewable energy mesmerized her, and she hopes to use her electrical engineering knowledge to make power more sustainable, accessible and reliable for everyone.
